Countisbury Common, North Devon

Debbie fancied a day out and I wanted to explore a new slope site so we headed up to Countisbury Common in North Devon. This is roughly 90 minutes from Okehampton.

To say that this site is spectacular is an understatement. I have flown St Agnes, Cornwall, Bwlch and Great Orme in Wales but this place is on another level. There was a Westerly at roughly 10 mph and conditions were gorgeous.

Here are some of the views;

This is the view from the car park. The walk up to the Building and mast in the centre of the picture is very gentle and the flying area is either side of the building.

This the view from the top looking SW towards Lynton.

Me about to launch the PMP Stage 2 Mk1 kindly given to me by Dennis recently which quickly became a favourite. Super open landing area at the back.

Sadly, shortly after this I put it into a roll and the wing broke in the centre and the model was lost on the cliffs below. This is the highest cliff face in England at 300+ meters and there was no way that I could even see it, never mind retrieve it.

This the side view of the slope  from the approach road and you can make out the building and mast on the top of the hill.

Here is the view from Lynton. I have marked the flying site at the top.

Very sad to loose this model because it was really lovely but I will be back there soon. Lynton is lovely little town.

    Really sorry to hear you lost that MK 1 – having seen it last weekend I thought it was awesome. Still, no better site to send a model to the great builder in the sky….
